New Delhi: A bank manager from Rajasthan was shot dead by militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulkham district yesterday.

Elaki Dehati Bank has a branch in Are Are Mohanbora, Gulkham District, Jammu & Kashmir. In this situation, a militant entered the bank branch, shot the manager Vijaykumar and escaped. Vijaykumar succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. A native of Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan, he recently joined the service here.

Following the incident, police cordoned off the area in an attempt to search for the militant.

Rajni Bala, a teacher from Jammu in Gulkham district, was shot dead outside a school last Tuesday. This is the second attack on Hindus in the district in three days.

Condemnation of Ashok Gelat

The attack took place within 24 hours of two major attacks in the neighboring district of Shopian. Farooq Ahmed Sheikh was shot and wounded by militants at his home in Shopian yesterday evening.

Three people were injured in a bomb blast on a military vehicle in Shopian yesterday morning. One of them was seriously injured.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Kejal has condemned the murder of bank manager Vijay Kumar. He accused the central government of failing to bring peace to Kashmir and called on the government to ensure the safety of its citizens. In another post, Ashok Kelad expressed condolences to Vijaykumar’s family. Two and three policemen, including a government employee named Rahul Bhatt, have been killed by militants in Kashmir in the last two months.

In this context, hundreds of government employees in Jammu yesterday staged a rally demanding employment in their own district.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday met National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to discuss the killings in Kashmir. Prime Minister Jitendra Singh was also present.
