Bangladesh Bank has issued new guidelines for foreign travel of managing directors (MDs) or chief executive officers (CEOs) of banks in the country. Now if MD or CEO of a bank wants to travel abroad, Bangladesh Bank’s permission will not be required. Previously, bank managing directors had to take approval from Bangladesh Bank 10 days before traveling abroad.

Bank MDs will not need permission to travel abroad

On Thursday (August 22), Bangladesh Bank has issued a circular in this regard from the Banking Regulations and Policy Department.

The circular states that the managing director or chief executive officer can travel abroad without the approval of Bangladesh Bank in accordance with the bank’s own travel policy with the approval of the board of directors or appropriate authorities in case of urgent travel abroad. However, the name, designation, office phone, cell phone number and e-mail address of the officer in charge of the MD or CEO during the period of absence due to travel of the MD or CEO must be informed in writing to the Banking Regulations and Policy Department (Division-II) 10 working days before departure.

It is to be noted that in a directive dated February 27, it is said that if the MD or CEO of the bank is traveling abroad very urgently, he should apply for Bangladesh Bank’s approval 10 working days before going out of the country.
