In recent years, against the background of the development of remote channels, Russian banks have closed their branches, but the trend has changed: banks are expanding their networks again, albeit due to new office formats. Several large credit institutions told Vedomosti about this.
By 2023, Sberbank plans to expand its network due to a lighter presence format with a minimum number of employees – the priority will be the ability to use services through an online bank, but in the office. The representative of the state bank did not name plans for the number of offices in the new format, now Sberbank has more than 14,000 branches.
VTB will open 116 branches in a new format by the end of this year, and by the end of next 262, said a representative of the state bank, in the next three years up to 70% of the network (now the bank has 1,350 branches) will be transferred to the new format. The difference from the old offices is in a barrier-free environment (no cash registers), pre-appointment by time and identification using a smartphone. The client will independently carry out 80% of transactions in the online bank, and the manager will act as a consultant.
