The Harvard graduate’s short film shows a man grieving the loss of his mother while coming to terms with her final wish. “The film is about lost objects and lonely people and forgiveness and regret,” Malia Obama said in a “Meet the Artist” video. “But I also think it’s trying to find where tenderness and closeness can lie in these things.”
She added that she hoped the film would help viewers “feel a little less alone, or at least remind them not to forget the people who are.” Malia Obama dropped her famous last name for her first film: In the credits, the young director is listed simply as “Malia Ann.”
