BarcelonaBarça has made public a statement this Monday in which it calls for the resignation of the president of the League (LFP), Javier Tebas, following the “false evidence” presented by the president to the Prosecutor’s Office in the context of the Negreira case. “FC Barcelona wishes to express its deep anger, indignation and gluttony -sentence of the text of the Catalan entity-. For this reason, we urgently require the president of LaLiga to appear publicly to offer explanations, beyond the tweet sent in the morning by Mr. Tebas, running away from study and with a menacing patina.”
Before Barça’s payment of more than 7 million euros to José María Enríquez Negreira, vice-president of the CTA for more than two decades, was brought to court, Tebas sent a letter with one of the pieces of evidence that could lead to the case: a handwritten letter in an envelope with the inscription “Top secret. Clause: Only possible to open it in the event of the greatest misfortune in the world for us. PS: we would gladly give it to avoid it”. The president of the League explains in his letter that the Civil Guard found the letter in a safe in the house of Josep Contreras – a former member of the sports commission who died last December – while investigating the Soule case, which centers on an alleged diversion of funds from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) during the presidency of Ángel María Villar and in which the League is also implicated.
Inside the envelope was a handwritten note with different names, properties, banks and mutual funds. Among these names, that of “Roman, lawyer”, “Josep Maria” and “Rosell” stands out, which Tebas himself relates to the former head of the club’s legal services Roman Gómez Ponti and the two former Barcelona presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, denounced by the Prosecutor’s Office for the Negreira case. Days later it was learned that Contreras’ letter did not refer to any of them, but to Emilio Román, lawyer of the Contreras family; Ramon Rosell, accountant for Contreras’ company, and Josep Maria, manager of their accounts at Banca Catalana.
