Nightmarish night for the two Spanish teams in the Champions League, FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, both of whom have been left out of the top European competition in the quarterfinals.
FC Barcelona failed to take advantage of the 3-2 win in Paris in the first leg and fell 4-1 against PSG, with a double from Kylian Mbappé, to Barcelona at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium in Catalonia.
The culés played the game for more than an hour with one less player after Ronald Araujo was sent off in the 29th minute.
Barça took the lead with a goal from Raphinha (12′), but after the expulsion PSG took control of the match, with Ousmane Dembélé (40′), Vitinha (54′) and Kylian Mbappé (penalty 61′, 88′ ) turned the game around, leaving the overall tie 6-4 for PSG.
With this setback, Barça is once again unable to win a new “orejona” since 2015.
On the other hand, Borussia Dortmund beat Atlético de Madrid to secure their ticket to the semifinals of the Champions League.
Borussia Dortmund’s first goal came in the 34th minute through Julian Brandt, just five minutes later, Maatsen made it 2-0 following another error by Molina.
Atlético de Madrid reacted and tied with an own goal from Hummels in the 49th and with a goal from Ángel Correa in the 64th. But Borussia continued to dominate the game and with two goals in the 71st and 74th, from Füllkrug and Sabitzer, they ended up eliminating the team from Cholo Simeone.
Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain will meet in the semi-finals. The first leg of the semifinals will be played on April 30 and May 1, while the second leg will be played on May 7 and 8.
