European football’s governing body UEFA has fined Spanish club Barcelona. and banned their spectators for one match.
Barcelona lost 2-1 to Monaco in the UEFA Champions League last week. In that match, Barcelona fans made racist comments. And because of that, UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body fined Barcelona 10,000 Euros or about 13,500,000 Taka. In addition, their visitors have been banned for the next Champions League away match.
This means that Barcelona will not be able to sell any more tickets to their fans for the next match. Barca will play a Champions League match at Red Star Belgrade on November 6. No spectators will be able to attend this match.
Barcelona, however, said it would refund the ticket sales for the match. And they accepted the punishment set by UEFA.
Barcelona said in a statement, “Barcelona will never support any violence and racism.” As these matters are mentioned in paragraphs 3 and 4. Therefore, we will always be against violence and racism to protect international human rights. Will be more aware of such incidents in home and away matches to avoid recurrence.
In April this year, three Barcelona fans were arrested for racist comments and Nazi salutes during a quarter-final match against PSG.
