Barcelona club received a heavy blow regarding the injury of one of its prominent players during the current summer.
Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo was injured during the Uruguay-Brazil match in the Copa America quarter-finals, which his country won on penalties.
Barcelona said in an official statement: “Tests carried out at the sports city have shown that Araujo suffers from an injury to the tendon of the right hamstring.”
“In the coming days, Araujo will undergo surgery by Lassi Lempainen, under the supervision of the club’s medical services, in Finland. After the surgery is completed, we will issue a new medical statement,” he added.
According to the newspaper “Sport”, Araujo underwent new medical examinations today, Monday, upon his arrival in Barcelona, to confirm the extent of the injury.
She pointed out that Araujo’s injury was at a sensitive point, which made surgery mandatory, because conservative treatment would not be a suitable option to get rid of the injury 100%.
She stated that surgery is the only alternative to avoid a future relapse, but Araujo will be out of action for more than 4 months because of it.
