Every time a celebrity visits Cuba and leaves a statement, many people, whether they are residents of the island or not, wonder if this really helps overcome the current crisis that the country is going through.
Showing on social media a reality that is completely alien to the daily life of most Cubans can have a boomerang effect on the protagonist and make him worthy of an avalanche of criticism. However, on this occasion, it has not gone that far, at least for now.
The new visitors to venture into Cuba’s parallel reality for tourists were two female football stars, Barcelona players Ona Battle and Lucy Bronce, key figures in the recent successes of the culé club in the last two seasons, in which they won the Champions League.
Both footballers, one Spanish and the other English, chose the Caribbean archipelago as their destination after visiting Mexico and, following their Instagram posts, you can see how they visited some of the most emblematic places in Cuba, mainly for foreign visitors.
Although each one made independent posts with their own photos, they shared the same destinations. At first they were in the capital, where they stayed in a private rental house and also walked around Old Havana. Likewise, they did not miss the ride in a classic American car or the photo in the Plaza de la Revolución.
Later they continued on to Trinidad and Varadero, where they also shared images of natural landscapes, drinking coconut water, walking through the cobblestone streets of the old town and the majestic sunsets on the beaches of the renowned resort.
In the specific case of Bronze, it is striking that just after this holiday trip, the news was made public that she will leave Barcelona, after two seasons, when her contract ends on June 30. However, the new team of the 32-year-old defender is still unknown.
Even though there are many detractors of this type of trip, which ends up promoting tourism in Cuba, it is something that happens quite frequently. In the football world, for example, one of the most memorable was the visit of the then captain of Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos, in 2015, who even shared time with children who were playing in a space in Old Havana.
