The Secretary of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Alicia Bárcena, attended on behalf of the President of Mexico Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador at the opening of the General Debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA-79), at the headquarters of New York, in the United States of the United Nations Organization (HIM), this Tuesday.
The event was also attended by Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the HIM, and the president of the General Assembly, Philémon Yang of Cameroonas well as leaders and representatives of the 193 member States of the Organization.
“Mexico, represented by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, actively participates in the UNGA-79 High Level Week, which marks a crucial milestone in the global effort to accelerate progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals,” the Foreign Ministry reported through its social networks.
Likewise, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs He indicated that among the priority objectives of this meeting were the search for the well-being of Sustainable Development, in view of this, the ties of cooperation were strengthened in the face of challenges such as climate change, poverty, inequality, as well as current conflicts.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena was accompanied by the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs of the SRE, Joel Hernandez; Maria Teresa Mercado, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs; and Hector Vasconcelos, Mexico’s representative at the UN.
