After less than a year, Google AI Bard has disappeared. Instead, the company wants to attack with Gemini – there will soon be further changes for users.

Google Bard is now called Gemini – but more than just the name is changing. The company announced in a press release that the new technology behind artificial intelligence (AI) is significantly more powerful. The group is also integrating the service into its other product range – from Gmail to Google Docs.

Because Gemini not only replaces Bard, but also Assistant and Duet – the previous name of the AI for workspace and cloud users. Google is bundling its entire AI business under the Gemini banner. This speaks over 40 languages and is also available in Germany.

In contrast, the app of the same name for Apple and Android smartphones is currently limited to the USA – at least officially. It is not known when exactly Gemini will replace the mobile assistant for German users.

Gemini Advanced for advanced capabilities

The basic Gemini model remains free. However, for users who want more, Google is introducing a new paid offering: Gemini Advanced. This model offers expanded capabilities and is even more powerful “at highly complex tasks such as programming, logical thinking, following nuanced instructions and collaborating on creative projects,” it says.

With the price of 22 euros per month, Google is apparently oriented towards the competition from OpenAI and ChatGPT. In addition to the improved AI, Gemini Advanced subscribers also get 2 TB of cloud storage space on Google Drive as well as other functions in the Calendar and Meet apps.

Google “warns” users about new design

Additionally, there could be a major visual change coming soon. For a few days now, there has been a notice on the Google account login page that a new and more “modern” design will soon be available.

Google has also announced further news from the field of artificial intelligence for the coming weeks. These should be aimed primarily at developers who would work with Gemini.
