Barel Hadaria Shmueli’s family is looking for a woman who will raise a child from his seed

The sister of an IDF soldier killed by gunfire from a short-range terrorist on the Gaza Strip border, Barel Hadaria Shmueli, Posted a post on her Instagram account tonight (Thursday), appealing to find a woman who would be willing to raise the child from her brother’s semen. “We are looking for the one who will join our family, give birth and raise a child of our Barel,” wrote nurse Hila, and even asked her followers to share the post.

Barel’s parents have recently waged a media struggle over a request to use his semen in order to produce “continuity.” The law in Israel does not allow the use of the dead seed for the parents who request it, but for the spouse, if she so desires. In addition, the law requires applicants to use semen to care for a surrogate mother and wife.

But about a week ago, a ministerial committee on legislation approved the government’s support for a “continuity law” proposal that would allow the continuity of a soldier who perished during his service by using his semen. The bill submitted by MK Zvi Hauser and initiated by the “Light for Families” association, is intended to allow the descendants of the deceased to be raised and to maintain its continuity through the use of his semen.
