Libreville, July 27, 2024 (AGP) – Launched last Thursday, the third edition of the Alumni camp of the Don Bosco club, organized by the former players of the said team, will end this Saturday, July 27, it was noted.
During each school holiday period, for the past three years, former basketball players from the diaspora and Gabon who left the Don Bosco club based in the Okala district, organize Alumni camp to share their knowledge and experience with the club’s young people to perpetuate the tradition.
« The concept of Alumni is to pass on our basketball knowledge to the younger ones, but also to provide equipment so that they are better equipped to play. And for this year, we have put a special emphasis on girls because last year we had a fairly small number of players. For this edition, there are 30 of them and so we want to highlight the female gender.“, explained the founder of Alumni camp, coach Bertin Kombila.
« The alumni camp is a story that began 3 years ago, when our coach-trainer of all the young people, Bertin Kombila decided to create a basketball camp, and he needed the former players who had gone abroad and those who had stayed in the country to carry out his project. We created the camp, then we wanted to bring together the best young people in the capital at first, so the young people who play in the Estuaire championship. After observation during the championship, we removed the best ones, of course there is also priority for the young people of Don Bosco.stressed one of the coordinators and former basketball player of the Don Bosco club, Jean-Hugues Damas.
The participants are 70 in number, including 40 boys and 30 girls. The ages vary between 8 and 15 years old, coming from other clubs in Libreville in addition to Don Bosco. These include Nzeng-Ayong Basketball (NABA), Gladiators, Engong Soldiers, Mapane- Basket-ball, Azeva Basket-ball, Elamba and Charbon Squad.
The first two days of this event were essentially based on pre-selections, which will allow the best among these young people to participate in the last matches scheduled for this Saturday, July 27, 2024.
