The sports city in Basra Governorate is witnessing a wide maintenance campaign in preparation for hosting the first matches of our national team in the decisive qualifiers for the World Cup finals on the fifth of next September, by hosting the Sultanate of Oman team.
Basra Sports City Director Lutfi Al-Jazaery told the (INA): “In implementation of the directives of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, to prepare for the second stage of the World Cup qualifiers and under the direct supervision of the Minister of Youth and Sports Ahmed Al-Mubarqa, work has begun on preparing Basra Sports City for this important event so that it is in accordance with the requirements of the International Federation.”
“The second stage of the qualifiers has technical importance and value, so it was prepared in a special way, as the VAR technology was added, which was not present in the first stage of the qualifiers, in addition to maintaining the stadium floor, track and remaining technologies, as well as preparing for the delegations’ accommodation and their teams’ training programs,” Al-Jazaery added, indicating that “the stadium will be fully prepared to receive the delegations of the International and Asian Federations to see its readiness and compliance with specifications.”
Al-Jazaery added, “According to the timetable that was set, the stadium will be completed by the beginning of next August in anticipation of any new intervention or addition of new technologies by the International and Asian Federations before the start of the decisive stage.”
