The history of how this cave came to be part of the house is even more interesting. “The cave was discovered in 2004, when the owners cleared the land to build the house,” the owners told the New York Post. The owners noticed cool air coming from a small hole in the ground. “A wind pressure test revealed a cave that may be the size of the house,” the statement said.

By 2011, an excavation company had created an entrance to the cave and made the 15-foot tunnel walkable. Meanwhile, another three-meter hole in the floor led to the discovery of a lower and larger room. Texas caves in the area range from 100,000 to 2 million years old. This specific cave was created by a shift in the ground that caused the collapse and creation of the opening.
