The government is violating Hungary’s national interest and trying to justify the battery factory investments with false claims, explained Lóránt László Keresztes (LMP), chairman of the Parliament’s Sustainable Development Committee.

The announcement of the construction of another battery factory in Debrecen (EVI Power) is outrageous and unacceptable because the residents were not informed despite their protests against the first battery factory (CATL). It is a lie that the environmental regulations are being complied with, since the criticism of the Chamber of Engineers has been ignored.

Foreign Minister Szijjártó stressed that these companies create a lot of jobs and develop infrastructure. However, Keresztes pointed out that according to the practice and the investors’ announcements, foreigners will work in the new factories and the infrastructure development – like the water supply to the factories – will be paid for by the government with Hungarian tax money.

The LMP will continue to do all it can to protect Hungary’s natural treasures. Keresztes announced a demonstration for May 23 on the initiative of the LMP party organization Debrecen.
