DECRYPTION – The ex-president dreams of taking his revenge. But he faces competition from several challengers within the Republican Party.

Trump opened hostilities. After being the first to announce his candidacy last November for the next American presidential election in 2024, the former president did not wait for his potential rivals to declare themselves to attack them. His first spades were aimed at Ron DeSantis. The Republican governor of Florida, leading in the polls, is his most dangerous competitor for the Republican nomination.

On his social media, Trump insinuated that DeSantis engaged in equivocal behavior with high school girls when he was briefly a teacher in Georgia in 2001, posting a photo from a school event implying that he had consumed alcohol with his students. The attack, a priori baseless, is as venomous as it is skilful. DeSantis and his entourage have a habit of accusing their adversaries of pedophilia, in particular the Florida Democrats, which makes it difficult to denounce the method.
