jpnn.comJAKARTA – Bawaslu Warns Village Heads About Neutrality in 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections

The Indonesian Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) reminded village heads to immediately resign if they want to run in the 2024 simultaneous regional head elections (Pilkada).

This was conveyed by Bawaslu RI Member Puadi in a Meeting to Prepare the Concept for Socialization and Guidelines for Handling Violations of Village Head Neutrality, Thursday (1/8).

“In the Regional Election Law, there are several provisions that explicitly mention village heads,” said Puadi in a statement quoted on Friday (2/8).

The provisions for resignation for village heads who will run as regional heads or deputy regional heads are regulated in Article 7 of the Regional Election Law.

In addition, participants competing in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections are also prohibited from involving village officials in campaign activities.

“The prohibition is stated in Article 70 of the Regional Election Law,” he said.

Puadi further said that village heads are also prohibited from making regulations that benefit one of the candidate pairs competing in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections.
