Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky faces new competition in the fight for the position as regular keeper in the Bundesliga.

On Tuesday, the Werkself announced the signing of Czech goalkeeper Matej Kovar. According to information from the club, the 23-year-old U21 international is moving from Manchester United from the English Premier League to Leverkusen and will have a contract with the Rhinelanders until June 30, 2027.

Kovar was loaned out by Manchester to Czech club Sparta Prague last season and was able to gain match practice in 32 games there. Leverkusen did not provide any information on the transfer fee. “He is a player with great prospects from whom we have high hopes in the coming years,” said Bayer Managing Director Simon Rolfes.

So far, the Finn Hradecky (33) was the undisputed number one in the Leverkusen goal. His contract with Bayer runs until 2026. (dpa)
