Kiel. It was a battle with unequal means, and it became evident. In Kiel, Bayern Munich leaves no doubts and ultimately wins 6:1.
Third game, third win: Led by the 14-second man Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich has surged to first place in the Bundesliga – warming up for the start of the Champions League. The record champions easily won on Saturday evening against the promoted team Holstein Kiel with a score of 6:1 (4:0) and are ready for the beginning of the new king class.
Musiala scored almost immediately after the whistle, and three days before the Champions League opener against Dinamo Zagreb, star striker Harry Kane (7th/43rd/90+1, penalty kick after video review) and substitute Michael Olise (65th) were also successful, while Kiels Nicolai Remberg (13th) scored an own goal. Shortly before the end, Armin Gigovic (82nd) managed to score a consolation goal for the newcomer.
The new coach Vincent Kompany now has his Bayern team sitting at the top of the Bundesliga for the first time, and Leroy Sane seems to be fit again just in time for the Champions League. The national player has not yet made his comeback in the north after his groin problems, but at least he was included in the squad for the first time this season.
Kiel had no chance as expected and thus became the fourth club in Bundesliga history to lose its first three games after Karlsruher SC (1963), Borussia Neunkirchen (1964), and Energie Cottbus (2000).
FC Bayern Munich quickly establishes clear conditions in Kiel
Bayern had prepared for the clash of opposites “with a lot of respect,” Kompany said before the match. And while his counterpart Marcel Rapp was suspended after his red card in the game against VfL Wolfsburg, Kompany saw a real lightning start from his team in front of 15,034 spectators. Musiala, who celebrated just 14 seconds into the match and scored the third-fastest Bundesliga goal in Bayern’s history, and Kane made everything clear with their early goals after just seven minutes. After that, it turned into a better training game for the Munich side, whose squad is valued at about 900 million euros more than Kiel’s.

And thus, newcomer Joao Palhinha experienced a rather calm starting debut, as the Portuguese was repeatedly supported in midfield by Joshua Kimmich. The new national team captain switched from his right-back position to the center as he did last time. With the many upcoming English weeks, Bayern’s stars turned on their energy-saving mode in Kiel after the early goals – Aleksandar Pavlovic was completely substituted, and Mathys Tel was rested for a long time.
And yet: By halftime, an even higher score was possible. But the always dangerous Serge Gnabry (26th and 45th) had no real luck, and Kane (27th) and Kingsley Coman (37th) also squandered good opportunities.
FC Bayern Munich: Two substitutions at halftime, substitutes get to show their skills
After their work, Musiala and Gnabry then had an early exit, with the duo being replaced at halftime by star substitute Thomas Müller, who celebrated his 35th birthday on Friday, and Olise – the Frenchman promptly scored his first Bundesliga goal. Kane capped it off after he was fouled in the penalty area. However, overall the guests didn’t play as greedily forward in the second half; perhaps Bayern didn’t want to completely humiliate Kiel in their own stadium. In the Champions League, they are expected to face much stronger challenges in the coming weeks.
