Bayonne: a man shot dead in the street, the shooter still on the run

A man was killed by gunfire on Saturday in a working-class neighborhood in the north of Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) and the suspected shooter is still being sought, we learned from the prosecution. According to information from South Westthe victim is 27 years old.

The young man, hit by several bullets, was in cardiorespiratory arrest when emergency services arrived on the scene, in the Sainte-Croix district. He died on the spot, despite resuscitation attempts, the same source told AFP.

The preferred route to settling scores

The perpetrator of the shooting, who was not arrested at this stage, had “deliberately targeted” the victim, according to the Bayonne prosecutor’s office which opened an investigation for assassination, entrusted to the Bayonne judicial police. According to information from Sud-Ouest, at least six shots were fired in the direction of the victim.

“The modus operandi seems to be that of a settling of scores,” said Bayonne prosecutor Jérôme Bourrier at the scene of the crime. An intervention from the technical police is expected in the Sainte-Croix district to advance the investigation, reports Sud-Ouest.
