When last February 1st Dustin Diamond, historical interpreter of Screech in “Bayside School”, died of lung cancer at the age of 44, all his former castmates have remembered him fondly and recently, in the second season of the show’s revival series shot starting in 2020 (“Saved by the bell” ), a real tribute has been paid to him. With the sitcom that made him famous, however, the actor has always had a conflicting relationship: in 2009 he published the controversial book “Behind the Bell”, which contained a shocking background between hypocrisy, envy and widespread consumption of alcohol and drugs on the set ( then years later he retracted these accusations). In addition, Diamond has faced numerous personal problems over the years (he filed for bankruptcy in 2001 and was arrested in 2014 and 2016, for possessing a switchblade and violating probation terms) and his career after ‘Bayside School »never took off, remaining concentrated between reality shows and some appearances in the cinema or on the small screen.
