The Agency played an “effective” role in the education and health sectors in Al-Quds, he stressed in a statement to MAP, on the sidelines of a conference on “the reality of education in Al-Quds”, held at the headquarters of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).

The Palestinian minister called on other countries to follow the example of Morocco through the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency which, under the supervision of HM King Mohammed VI, acquires real estate to build new schools in the Holy City and rehabilitates existing ones, explaining that such initiatives supporting education in Al-Quds will contribute to ensuring the continuation of education provided to Palestinian students according to Palestinian curricula.

For his part, the Director of Education and Teaching in Al-Quds, Samir Jibril, noted, in a similar statement, that the “excellent initiatives” undertaken by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency for the benefit of education in the Holy City have had a significant impact, whether it is the acquisition of buildings with a view to transforming them into schools, the construction of new schools or the creation of additional classrooms and the maintenance of existing schools.

The Palestinian official also praised the educational and recreational activities organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI by the Agency for the benefit of Maqdessi students, particularly summer camps in Morocco.

He further noted that the education sector in the Holy City is facing a “fierce attack” through threats and sanctions imposed on teachers and students using Palestinian books, citing in this regard the recurring closures of the education and teaching library and the actions that prevent students and teachers from entering the city (separation wall, checkpoints, etc.).

During the opening of this conference, the director of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, stressed that the Agency’s interventions in the field of education in Al-Quds aim to support the educational system, in convergence with the efforts of Palestinian partners in order to preserve the national identity and the authentic historical narrative of Palestine, and in concomitance with the actions undertaken to improve the educational environment within schools and universities.
