Bazèga: Networks want to promote positive masculinity to stem gender-based violence

Kombissiri (AIB)- Members of the provincial networks for the promotion of positive masculinity in Bazèga and Zoundwéogo received training from June 7 to 10, 2023 in Kombissiri, as part of the fight against gender-based violence (GBV ).

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a serious human rights violation problem all over the world.

In Burkina Faso, according to the provincial director in charge of gender in Bazèga, Lamoussa Clotilde Korbéogo, the center for the management of gender-based violence (VBG) recorded, thanks to the toll-free number, 1,139 cases of GBV, i.e. 958 women. and 181 men between March 2021 and March 2023.

With a view to effectively combating this phenomenon, the Ministry in charge of Gender, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has set up networks to promote positive masculinity in certain regions of the country, including the Centre-south with the provinces of Bazèga and Zoundwéogo.

This new approach aims to reduce inequalities between men and women, offers men to get involved in education, health, and in many other areas for the well-being and development of the family.

During the training, the members of the networks of the provinces of Bazèga and Zoundwéogo were equipped with the notions of gender-based violence (GBV), positive masculinity and positive gender norms as well as the roles of the networks.

The training session was an opportunity to set up the Bazèga provincial network office, with 8 members, including the Bazèga provincial director of gender, designated as coordinator of the provincial network.

These provincial networks, according to one of the trainers, Ms. Zalissa Bayala/Ouedraogo from the General Directorate for the Promotion of Women and Gender, have the mission of informing and sensitizing communities on GBV.
