BBC: Leopard hunts baboons at night – The video with the impressive footage
For the first time BBC record footage with one leopard to hunts baboons who are in the trees at night in the first episode of the series «Mammals».
In the video, a large female leopard can be seen prowling and preparing to hunt down a group of baboons resting in 20-meter-high trees. The BBC’s modern night vision cameras captured the amazing ability of the leopard to adapt its vision in the dark in order to be able to hunt.
Leopards have a special reflective layer behind the retina called the tapetum that can amplify even the smallest amount of light available.
Leopard hunts baboons at night: The video from the BBC
In the video, it appears that the baboons resting carelessly in the trees have poor night vision, as they are unable to see the approaching leopard. However, they have excellent hearing so they can alert other baboons to threats in the dark. Chaos ensues in the video when the baboons hear the leopard.
