Bilbao BBK Live is making rapid preparations for its seventeenth edition while the main festival goers are already in camp in Kobetamendi, which will host a hundred concerts from Wednesday to Saturday. Beginnings are always complicated and in this case the festival camp, which was scheduled to open at 12:00 noon, opened its doors about two hours late. This situation has not deterred the good spirits of the camps, who have been wise and sought a grave to rest during the wait.
During these days Bilbao added a new neighborhood to its street: the BBK Live campsite. Carlos and Marina arrived directly from A Coruña to experience their first edition of this festival. They were attracted by Prodigy and Massive Attack, although they knew the tickets were a bonus. They are festival goers but so far they have only attended electronic music and metal events. “This covers a lot of styles, so we come to live a new experience.” To do this, his survival kit is basically “music, beer and a fanny pack.” And like good Galicians, they always bring something to wear “although it seems that the stars have aligned for us to have good weather.”
Recently arrived from the north of Italy, the couple formed by Simone and Camila did not lose their smile and announced their desire to “dance a lot and hug people” in their first time at BBK Live. In Spain they have attended the Sónar and Dreambeach festivals in Barcelona, but “so many festivals around the world” that it is impossible for them to remember them all. Once they were settled, they explained that they were going to the supermarket to get supplies and to get to know the capital of Biscay. The Guggenheim is a word that is repeated mostly by foreigners as the first thing they decide to visit this afternoon before the three full days of music in Kobetamendi start this Thursday.
Irene and Alejandra showed up at the festival in the capital of Biscay. They admitted that they were encouraged after seeing the poster and on the recommendation of some friends who were there last year. They were afraid that it would rain and become muddy, but they said that they were happy with the good weather that surprised them. “Just like in Alicante,” they cried. They take clothes designed for each day in order to express their appearance with style, but with other clothes in the box “just in case” such as, of course, the raincoat. After they settle, their plan is to see the places of interest in Bilbao and, as they are told that the food is “very good”, to try the pintxos.
“We don’t go camping, but camping with a pre-arranged tent,” explains the people from Alicante who have traveled by plane and brought their own which is difficult for them. This option has more and more followers who come out for hiring this service of shops that are already organized and ready to enter, so that you do not have to load, organize or release their own. This way, they have one less worry and can focus on enjoying the festival.
Catalans Ana and Marc are also first-timers in Kobetamendi, who will stay at the usual campsite. Parcels, Chill Mafia and Derby Motoreta’s Burrito Kachimba are the main attractions that have pushed these young people from Barcelona to go to BBK Live. Your essential items for the three days of the festival are plenty of water, food (especially fruit), a tent and portable chargers. They admit that they don’t have much experience of camping, but they are excited about the festival. “Let’s see what happens, but we will manage to survive,” they said.
The legacy of father and son
“I’m trying to manipulate your musical taste,” Javier answered with a smile about why he brought his son Noel to BBK Live from Fuengirola. There are many ways and institutions to experience music, but this parent-child relationship draws attention among groups of friends. This is the first time they visited Bilbao, but he said that they have been to several parties together. “Since I won’t be able to leave him great legacies, I will leave him great experiences.” And having the opportunity to come and see your favorite bands, there is no better experience than live and direct. The father said that he also plays his music at home, he would not want the summer to pass without a time experiencing a party. They will take advantage of the mornings to get to know Bilbao, while they will enjoy concerts in the afternoons to return home “full of music.”
