BC (Central Bank) plans to implement Pix offline, without having to be connected to the internet, as it currently is. That’s what the Pix Report released this Monday (September 4, 2023) says. Read the full text (PDF – 6 MB).

According to the monetary authority, this will help increase user access and encourage the “replacement of less efficient means of payment”. Approximation payment is also foreseen.

The document provides projections for the future of the platform. Among them is the use of Pix to pay road tolls, parking lots and public transport tickets.

The projects for the evolution of the platform also include other transaction formats, such as payments in installments or installments, “mitigating the credit risk of the recipient in eventual situations of default by the payer”, says the financial body.

In the same document, BC still opens up the possibility that Pix can be used as an alternative to a credit card.

“There are, for example, solutions that link a personal credit grant to the Pix transaction and solutions that allow the payment of a Pix transaction on the credit card bill”, says the report.

This possibility of credit had already been mentioned before, in August, by BC president Roberto Campos Neto.

“You will start to be able to credit Pix. So, at some point in the future, you won’t need to have a credit card, you can do everything on Pix “, he said during a seminar at ACP (Associação Comercial do Paraná).

BIGGEST PIX WAS BRL 1.2 BILLION

The biggest Pix ever made since the creation of the tool, in 2020, was R$1.2 billion. The average value of transfers between individuals is R$257. In 93% of them, the payment was up to R$200.

By the end of last year, there were 133 million people who had already registered their keys on the platform created by BC. Companies total 11.9 million. In total, there are 551 million existing keys. The number is higher because a person or company can register more than 1 receipt code.

Still according to the report, transactions between December 2021 and December 2022 more than doubled. With an increase of 107%, the number of transfers went from 1.4 billion to 2.9 billion in 1 year.
