According to the constitution, if a director is absent from three consecutive board meetings without acceptable reason, his directorship becomes vacant.
The directors, who went into hiding after the political reshuffle, are yet to join the Farooq Ahmed-led board. BCB is in crisis due to the trouble with them. There is a crisis, there is a shortage of directors on the board. As a result, BCB is not able to do the work of distribution of responsibility.
Meanwhile, Farooq Ahmed, Nazmul Abedin Farooq held three board meetings and one emergency board meeting. But the Standing Committee could not finalize it. There are several reasons behind this. Not getting the right manager in the right place. As a result, he seems to interfere in every work. The committees are working together. Farooq himself is giving all the decisions of the biggest department cricket management department. Besides, he is fully supervising the BPL and Grounds department. Besides, Fahim Sinha, Nazmul Abedin Fahim, Akram Khan, Iftekhar Ahmed Mithura are taking care of several committees with unwritten responsibility.
Yesterday, Monday (07 October) after the meeting of the board of directors of BCB at the board office in Mirpur, President Farooq Ahmed said, ‘We are directors, but we are looking at 2, 3, 4 departments. Chairman, Member Secretary, Members are also needed to reconstitute the committee. That kind of manpower does not exist now. However, even if the committee does not work, the work does not stop. We are working.’
The question also arises as to why the process of announcing vacancies for absent board directors has stopped. The list includes Ismail Haider Mallick, Tanveer Ahmed Titu, AJM Nasir, Gazi Ghulam Mortuza, Odev Nizamra. After the fall and change of government, they all gave up. However, two of them have sent a letter to the chief executive showing the reason for their illness in BCB. Farooq hinted that the BCB may take a decision on them soon, ‘There have been four meetings including an emergency meeting. Now is the time to decide about those who are not.’
But the reflection of this word is unlikely to be seen. Because there are many hurdles in removing them and bringing in new directors. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has already disbanded the District and Divisional Sports Reform Committees. As a result, there is no opportunity to bring anyone from outside. Apart from this, there is no opportunity now to elect directors through the process of councilors being elected from clubs and other organizations. There is still no stable environment in the clubs. Organizations also do not have specific representatives. The two directors who have come to the BCB so far are elected representatives of the government under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
All in all, no new person can come to the board of directors. It is also not possible to give elections in a quick time. Due to multi-faceted crisis, the management of BCB is now going on with a lot of handshakes. Where Farooq Ahmed is the last hope. The domestic cricket season is about to begin. The National Cricket League starts on October 14. Bangladesh Premier League December 27. The big challenge for BCB is to start two leagues now.
