Richard Stonier is known as ‘Crazy’ in Bangladesh cricket. Joined in 2018 as youth team fitness trainer. In just two years, he won everyone’s attention. Stonier was unique in his innovative fitness training, uncanny ability to blend in with the team, and his ingenious tactics to keep the boys fired up. He was nicknamed ‘Crazy’ by the team. And all his training was called ‘crazy’.
His role in helping the youth team win the World Cup was phenomenal. The way he energizes the entire team throughout the tournament has been seen time and again on the TV screen. Worked in BCB for four years from 2018 to 2022. Then returned to the country for family reasons. BCBO also did not renew his contract.
BCB has again roped in Youth World Cup winner Naveed Nawaz as the coach of the BCB U-19 team. Soon after his return, there was talk that Stonier might be brought back. That’s it. The 39-year-old Englishman holds a bachelor’s degree in sports and exercise science from Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom. He has taken it as his profession to tie the daily life of the players to table. Stonier has worked with different teams and athletes at different times.
He also takes classes online. His online class fee is only $99. He does not spend this money for himself. The money he takes is spent on the charitable medical and service center opened in the mother’s name. His mother, Diane, died of cancer in 2013. Since then he has been trying to do something for cancer sufferers.
Meanwhile, BCB has appointed Sandeep Kumar Ramal as a performance analyst for the U-19 team. Along with Stonier, Ramal will also join the U-19 camp in Khulna next week.
