BCCI to select 20-member squad for 2023 World Cup, advised to avoid IPL

Mumbai: BCCI has taken an important step towards the ODI World Cup to be held in India this year. BCCI has shortlisted a pool of 20 players who will be part of the World Cup squad, according to national media reports.

The decision was taken at the BCCI’s performance review meeting held at the Seven Star Hotel in Mumbai. Coach Rahul Dravid, Captain Rohit Sharma, NCA Chairman VVS Laxman and former Chief Selector Chetan Sharma were present. Board President Roger Binney participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

Along with this, the board may also ask key players to skip the upcoming IPL and focus only on ICC events. This step is part of the prevention of injury to the players. BCCI is preparing for unprecedented measures in the history of Indian cricket.

The National Cricket Academy has been tasked with managing the workload of the players selected for this pool and tracking the fitness of the players. For this, the National Cricket Academy will work in association with the IPL franchises. It is reported that the action of the board is in view of the World Cup and foreign tours to be held this year.

At the same time, it is reported that important decisions have been taken in the meeting regarding the selection criteria. Yoyo test and DEXA (bone scan) to prove fitness will be mandatory. Team selection will be based on these. Young players have to play continuously in the domestic season to make it to the national team.
