Beach in Paraíso, Tabasco, closed due to tar contamination

Authorities of Paradise, Tabascoannounced the closure of access to the Sun Beachlocated just six kilometers from the new Dos Bocas refinerybecause this Monday the presence of tar residues was reported in the sand.

“The municipal government of Paraíso through the Civil Protection Coordination as well as the Directorate of Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development informs the general public that access to Playa Del Sol, located in The Flowers second; due to the chapapote waste that ended up in the coastal area,” indicates a statement published on the mayor’s social networks.

Indicates that, together with Mexican Petroleum (Pemex), workers with specialized equipment began work to clean up the affected areas.

However, the municipality does not specify where the waste comes from.

A month earlier, activists from the Caretta MX Foundation denounced the contamination with oil waste in 36 kilometers of the coast of Veracruz, from the Coatzacoalcos River to the Tonala Rivermainly in the freshwater area bordering Tabasco.

They warn that it could be due to crude oil extraction.
