Beach vacation in Gran Canaria – incidence over 1000, distance zero – news abroad

Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) – The Canary Islands (Spain) are the Germans’ favorite sun travel destination in winter.

However, the archipelago has been classified as a high-risk area by the Federal Foreign Office since Christmas. The current 7-day incidence in the Canary Islands is over 1000. At the turn of the year, tourists were still basking in the sun on the beach of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria.

Since yesterday, with Italy, Canada and Malta, other countries have been considered high-risk areas. Means: People who are not fully vaccinated (including children) have to be in quarantine for at least five days after returning from vacation.

As of Tuesday, the UK and South Africa will be downgraded from virus variant area to high risk area.
