Half human, half bear: Maxwell Atoms experiences many adventures in “Bears in Space”. In the colorful shooter, the spacetronaut goes through fast-paced and absurd situations in a world full of robots. The game offers a lively retro sci-fi setting with plenty of offbeat humor and oil instead of spurting blood. The man-bear’s mission is to find his way back to Earth.
“Bears in Space” begins with a crash landing on a planet full of murderous robots. In the process, Maxwell’s DNA is mixed with that of Beartana, the legendary space bear.
Told with a wink, the story focuses on action-packed entertainment rather than deep plot lines. The focus is on Maxwell’s superhuman powers: double jumps, lightning-fast dodging, the use of three weapons at once. Then, of course, comes the transformation into a giant bear when Maxwell has eaten honey.
There are around 15 hours of boxing and wild shooting in corridors, arenas and open areas teeming with robots. The arsenal of weapons is constantly growing, from multi-barreled rocket launchers to laser shotguns. You can also invest play money in extravagant weapons like the anvil launcher – a must for every weapon collector.
And: The Maxwell Bear combo can not only shoot with two brightly colored laser cannons – if you upgrade the weapons, you get a third one as well.
Important in the game: a bunch of mini-games with puzzles and funny objects. The wild shootout with countless robots is replaced in the next moment by a round of basketball with dice. Later in the game you come across puzzles and exploration missions – it remains exciting.
The colorful comic graphics of “Bears in Space” put you in a good mood, and the many humorous details give the game a special touch of charm. Technically, the game impresses with fluid gameplay that runs smoothly even on older devices.
