The Lakish area of the southern police district opened an investigation into the murder of 41-year-old Polina Weissman in the city of Ashdod, after the police were called to her home, where she was found mortally wounded, and her death was pronounced at the hospital.

Thanks to a quick investigation conducted by Lachish region investigators in the police, shortly after the murder they were able to arrest the deceased’s current partner, her divorcee, and after tests and investigation using technological means to also arrest the young man, a resident of Ibn Shmuel, who eventually confessed to the murder.

It all started with a report by the spouse who mistakenly called the 102 hotline of the fire and rescue services and they relayed the report that an injured woman was lying bleeding in an apartment in Ashdod. As soon as the police arrived at the scene, the partner told them that a young man who was in the apartment hit her in the head with a hammer.

The partner who stayed in the apartment next to the body of his partner, was arrested by the police as a suspect of involvement in the murder. In his investigation, the partner said that he fled the apartment after the killer tried to hurt him as well when he was masked.

The police investigators conducted initial tests and also arrested the deceased’s ex-husband who was staying at his parents’ house in Bat Yam.

The investigators conducted forensic laboratory tests, made use of sophisticated technological means and managed during the night to trace the traces and identity of the 22-year-old young man resident of Ibn Shmuel, who was arrested on suspicion of murder.

At first in his investigation, the suspect denied that he murdered the deceased, said that he was there but was not involved in the incident and according to him, the one who murdered her was the partner who supposedly remained in the apartment. He later broke down in his investigation, confessed and was even brought to the scene of the murder, where he repeated his actions in front of the police cameras.

The police investigation reveals that on the day of the murder, there was allegedly a meeting between the suspect and the victim without any prior acquaintance between them, and an argument between the two allegedly occurred over money, during which the suspect left the victim’s apartment, and returned to her after a short time, where he allegedly attacked her with an object sharp and/or dull and caused her death.

As mentioned, the Ashkelon Magistrate’s Court granted the request of the police yesterday, and extended the arrest of the suspect in the murder, until 2.3.23.
