The Swiss Dominic Stricker dominated, in three short sets, the Italian Luca Nardi this Wednesday in Jeddah.
The Swiss Dominic Stricker (94th in the world) left no chance to the Italian Luca Nardi (115th), whom he beat 4-1, 4-1, 4-2 in 54 minutes, during the second day of the Next Gen ATP Finals, the Under-22 Masters, Tuesday in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
Stricker, eighth finalist at the US Open last September, surprised the day before by the other Italian in the tournament, Flavio Cobolli (100th), won the first round in 18 minutes.
With this new format, tested during this “Next Gen Masters”, sets in four winning games, the Swiss left-hander was even faster in the second round, pocketed in 16 minutes. The last one, a little longer, lasted 20 minutes.
In the other match of the green group, the Frenchman Arthur Fils, 19 years old, the highest ranked of the eight participants (36th), must meet Flavio Cobolli (100th) in the afternoon.
Van Aasche (70th), the other Frenchman in the tournament, is scheduled for the evening against Hamad Medjedovic (110th), in the red group, after his victory on Monday against the Jordanian Abdullah Shelbayh (185th), in four sets.
Arriving the same day from Malaga, where he was part of the Serbian Davis Cup team, Medjedovic was happy to beat late Monday evening, in the longest match of the first day (2h27), the American Alex Michelson, despite the cramps which plagued him throughout the last set.
