Chengalpattu: DMK MP DR Balu has said that he had given a letter to the railway department before taking office as an MP that the Tejas train should stop at Tambaram.

The people of Tambaram and its surrounding areas and Railway Passengers Association have been demanding that the two-way Tejas Express train running between Chennai and Madurai should stop at Tambaram.

In this case, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had ordered that the Tejas express train, which can be operated in both directions from Chennai to Madurai, will stop at Tambaram for a period of 6 months on a trial basis from today (February 26).

The inauguration ceremony was held at Tambaram railway station this morning. Union Minister of State L. Murugan and DMK MP D. R. Balu also participated in this. D.R. Balu who met the media after the event said: “On 30th May last year, I directly met the Chairman of the Railway Commission and gave a letter to that effect on behalf of the DMK.

We were sworn in on 18th June. But before that I gave this letter as an elected Member of Parliament on 30th May. As a continuation of that, I am now looking at the inauguration ceremony of the Tejas train stopping at Tambaram.

On 2.1.2020 met John Thomas who was General Manager of Railways and gave him a letter. We met the present Railway Minister in Parliament and gave a letter. Finally we met Railway Minister on 23.12.2022 and 8.2.2023 and gave letter. As we kept insisting, they said that somehow they will make it happen. Accordingly, today the Tejas train stops at Tambaram,” he said.

Earlier, DMK and BJP members who had come to participate in the event raised slogans alternately. The incident caused a commotion at the Tambaram railway station.
