On Saturday morning, Gabija Galvydyta, who competed in the consolation 800 m run, was also unlucky.

The 24-year-old athlete covered the distance in 2 minutes. 0.66 sec. However, it was not possible to reach the semi-finals with such a result – according to the new competition system, the winner of each consolation run and the two Olympians who showed the best result in all runs took the ticket to it).

Jonavietė finished fourth in her run, which meant that the door to the semi-finals was closed for her even before the start of the other athletes.

“I was missing, just missing… I felt tired, I won’t lie. Yesterday the emotion was very high, I just couldn’t calm down, I gave in to the emotion. It was really more difficult today”, said G. Galvydytė after the run.

On Friday night, the Olympian shone at the Stade de France – she did not win a ticket to the semi-finals, but she bettered her personal best by almost a second (1 min 59.18 sec).

According to the old system of the Olympic Games, G. Gadvylytė would have reached the semi-finals on Friday evening.

“It is inhumanly difficult, yesterday’s result would have guaranteed me a place in the semi-finals (according to the old system), but the new rules, we are trying to get used to it, but it is felt among all the competitors that we are tired, there was not much time to recover,” she continued.

The runner was also unlucky because she was assigned the first consolation run. In it, St. John’s was fourth, but, for example, in other consolation races, she could have won a direct ticket to the semi-finals with such a running time (taking first place).

“I think there are pluses, there are minuses, you need to adapt to it, there are some who saved more energy, there are those who ran better yesterday, not only that time, but also the emotion gives a lot, because when you run well, you really don’t think about sleep .

Here it’s like after passing an exam, you don’t want to go to sleep, you want to go enjoy yourself”, G. Galvydytė evaluated the new format and the still boiling emotions.

Just before the start of the decisive consolation run, news reached the athlete about Viktorija Senkutė’s success in the rowing competition – she won a bronze medal.

“I didn’t get to watch, but I know she won a medal, she told me before the run. The first medal for Lithuania motivated (me). She was very lucky, I couldn’t fight, it’s a pity”, added the Olympic debutante.

She will remember the first Olympic Games not only because of the improved personal result: “I will take away a very positive emotion, let’s hope that we will be able to get to the next Olympics and those emotions will be even more. I will definitely use this experience in the coming season.”

The 800m semifinals will be held on Sunday at 9 p.m. 40 minutes Lithuanian time.
