The 24th annual state-level aggi tournament in memory of the late aggi players Balasubramaniam, Jaisingh, Palaniandavar and Meiyappan started yesterday at the Thirunagar aggi club in Madurai district at the Anna Park sports ground.

28 team players from major cities including Chennai, Trichy, Kovilpatti, Thanjavur, Sivagangai, Vadipatti Madurai are participating and playing. 4 teams in the morning and 4 teams in the evening compete in this tournament which is held in knock-out mode. The winning team is awarded a trophy and individual special prize. The aggi competition started yesterday under the leadership of Madurai district aggi club secretary Thirunagar Ramesh. Madurai Corporation 95th Ward Councilor Indira Gandhi attended and inaugurated the first competition

8 teams clashed

The first match was between Kovilpatti Phillips and Dindigul Pandias. Kovilpatti Phillips team won the tiebreaker by 5 to 4 goals. After this Thanjavur team and Vadipatti Development team clashed, Thanjavur team won 3-1. In the 3rd match Rajapalayam Best Prince team and Tampanur team met, Rajapalayam team won by 3-1 goal. Following this, the Kovilpatti Lakshmi Ammal Sports Academy team and the Tirunelveli Balai Boys team played and the Kovilpatti team won with the score of 4 – 1. Similarly, the competition continues today.
