Note that TIPS is a medical procedure. Its full form is Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt. It is mainly by creating a bypass channel of the portal vein with the hepatic vein of the liver. If the pressure in the portal vein is increased due to cirrhosis of the liver, this treatment reduces the pressure. It prevents bleeding. However, it is not an effective treatment for liver cirrhosis, according to hospital sources. It is only the first step in a complex treatment of liver cirrhosis.
