The event, which brought together representatives from Brazil, Hungary, Japan, Jordan, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Russia, Thailand and Tajikistan, aimed to strengthen cooperation between the Collaborating Centres in the field of nuclear security, the Agency said in a statement on its website.

At the meeting, AMSSNuR presented its achievements under its mandate as a Collaborating Centre, as well as its future plans to continue strengthening nuclear security, the statement said.

Mr. Mouline, also president of the GNSSN (Global Nuclear Safety and Security Network), continues to play a key role in strengthening nuclear security on the African continent and internationally, underlines the same source.

He added that Mr. Mouline’s participation in this annual meeting in Beijing demonstrates AMSSNuR’s commitment to working closely with the IAEA and its Collaborating Centers to ensure the safe, secure and peaceful use of ionizing radiation sources.

Since its designation in June 2021 as the first IAEA Collaborating Centre in Africa for Nuclear Security Capacity Building, AMSSNuR has been committed to assisting Member States in developing their nuclear security regulatory frameworks, developing national and regional capacities with a particular focus on Africa, and strengthening regional and international cooperation in the field of nuclear security.

The Agency has actively contributed to nuclear security capacity building through various regional and international cooperation activities, including the organization of the 3rd International Conference of Regulators on Nuclear Security in 2019 in Marrakech under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the hosting of African trainees, the organization of scientific visits and expert missions as well as numerous workshops and training courses.

The IAEA Collaborating Centres, which comprise institutions, departments and laboratories in IAEA Member States, play a crucial role in supporting the IAEA’s programmed activities through the implementation of agreed action plans.
