The Office of the US Trade Representative issued a statement recently that it is proposing to increase tariff rates under Art. 301 for five categories of goods, including certain tungsten products, silicon wafers, and polysilicon. In addition, the service will seek public opinion on the plan to significantly increase tariffs for related products starting this week, Radio China reported.
In this regard, He Yongqien, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, stated that China has always opposed the increase in tariff rates under Art. 301 and has repeatedly offered to organize formal negotiations on the matter. “We urge the US side to respond objectively and rationally to the opinions of all spheres of society, starting with securing global production and supply chains, respecting the core interests of consumers and producers in China and the US.” We further demand that all tariffs imposed on China be removed under current law as soon as possible to create a healthy and predictable environment for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.”
