Countries including the United States and India boycotted the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

The Winter Olympics begin on February 4 in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
The Beijing Olympics, in which 91 countries participated, ended yesterday. Athletes from 91 countries, including China, Australia, Brazil, USA, Norway, England, Germany, Japan and India, took part.
Norway topped the Olympic medal tally with 37 medals, including 16 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze.
Germany finished second with 27 medals, including 12 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze. China finished third with 9 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze with 15 medals.
The United States is 4th with 25 medals, including 8 gold, and Sweden is 5th with 18 medals.
