CaixaBank has gathered this Tuesday close to 100 companies in the food sector in Catalonia to promote the green transition of those companies interested in implementing sustainability in their businesses, in an event held in Girona.

The day was opened by Josep Mª Gonzàlez, regional director of CaixaBank in Catalonia, who emphasized that “being sustainable is no longer an option, it is increasingly a requirement to access the market and reach customers. If we want our economy to be sustainable, together we must make great progress in many productive areas, which affect the entire business fabric in a more or less direct way. For some, it will mean adaptation and, for others, a comprehensive transformation, but it is a challenge that we all face.”

The day, which took place at CaixaForum Girona, continued with the presentation by Alvaro Colino, director of sustainable business product coordination at CaixaBank, who remarked that a successful business system needs financial profitability, at the same time that they must take into account environmental, social and governance variables.

Then Miquel Sabater, Deloitte expert, emphasized that “the food sector is one of those that needs greater urgency in the implementation of sustainability measures“, and that “the drivers of sustainability in the food sector are three: the impact of agriculture and food production on the environment; the growing demand for sustainably produced food; and the fact that regulators are focusing on meeting sustainable measures in agriculture and food production.’

Finally, Jesus Loza, director of global financing solutions at CaixaBank, interviewed Jorge Grande, general manager of the Puratos group, which offers a complete range of innovative products in bakery, pastry and chocolate applications for artisans, industrialists, retail and channel horeca

The entity explains that the objective is to offer a personalized advisory service accompanied by a specialist team. For this, it has trained 150 CaixaBank Empreses managers in order to learn more about the opportunities offered by sustainability to boost businesses, regardless of the sector in which they operate. The plan is aimed at companies from different sectors linked to the entity and with a turnover of up to 500 million euros.
