Beit Shemesh in a huge project: What will half a billion shekels be invested in?

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will bring to the government’s approval a plan for the development of the city of Beit Shemesh, the scope of which is estimated at more than half a billion shekels. The program will include Ministries of the Interior, Construction and Housing, Transportation, Economy and Welfare.

The budgets are intended to improve the quality of life of the residents of Beit Shemesh, and the plan includes, among other things, the establishment of new transportation infrastructure, construction of public institutions, promotion of supportive housing infrastructure and urban renewal, promotion of professional training, economic development projects and municipal strengthening.

According to the decision to be approved by the government, NIS 300 million will be invested in strengthening public transportation lines, NIS 82 million will be invested in building public institutions and expanding infrastructure, NIS 50 million will be invested in municipal strengthening, 34 million will be invested in vocational training and municipal employment, 31 million in welfare services. 10 million in increasing personal security and another 10 million for culture and leisure for residents.

According to CBS data, the population of Beit Shemesh has increased by 63% in the last decade, the highest rate among the 15 largest cities in the country. The number of residents added to the population of Beit Shemesh in the last decade stands at about 50,000. Beit Shemesh faces significant socio-economic challenges , And is a major transit destination for the ultra-Orthodox population.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said: “We are promoting an unprecedented plan that will improve the quality of life in the city. Mayor Aliza Bloch is working hard for a better future for the city’s residents since her tenure began. The work is considerable, and now we will lead it together.”
