Beitar Jerusalem announced today (Wednesday) that following the radius penalty imposed on the team, it will host the next home game in the league as part of the sixth round at Bloomfield Stadium, where it will meet newcomer Benny Raina.
As I recall, the reason for the radius (and also for the NIS 20,000 fine that the team received at the time) is a fan riot and an accumulation of cases of the crowd erupting onto the grass, racial slurs and rioting under aggravating circumstances. The Jerusalemites even received an additional conditional radius in cases of injury to the referee or fans breaking into the field.
In the meantime, Yossi Abuxis’ team will be prosecuted because a number of smoke grenades and flares were lit in the stands that housed the team’s fans while the players were on the field and before the start of the game against Maccabi Tel Aviv. Also, in the 83rd minute before Eran Zahavi’s penalty kick, several drinking glasses were thrown onto the field from the northern bleachers where the Beitar crowd was sitting.
