According to the minister, groups of soldiers are being strengthened “to be able to respond to possible provocations.”
Military units of special operations forces, ground forces, missile forces, including those equipped with jet artillery systems Polonez and systems Iskander, have been ordered to deploy in designated areas. We have also increased anti-aircraft missile, electronic warfare, and aviation capabilities,” said V. Chrenin.
The decision was made after the alleged violation of the Belarusian airspace – allegedly drones were launched from the territory of Ukraine.
According to the official, on August 9 the air force on duty detected “unidentified objects flying from the territory of Ukraine”. The forces identified the drones as they crossed the border into Belarus. Some of them were intercepted.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to react to any changes,” asserted the Belarusian Defense Minister.
Earlier, A. Lukashenko said that on Friday evening the Belarusian Air Force and anti-aircraft defense units were put on high alert due to the violation of the airspace in the Kasciukovichi district. According to A. Lukashenko, at 7:04 p.m. local time, anti-aircraft defense forces allegedly destroyed several targets over the territory of Belarus, and the rest were eliminated by Russian forces near Yaroslavl.
“The search for the destroyed (objects) continued throughout the night and this morning. We suspect that these were combat drones,” A. Lukashenka said.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, at least nine Shahed kamikaze drones, which Russia regularly launches into Ukraine, violated Belarusian airspace in July.
