Belarusian journalist Alyaksandr Burakov, who works with Deutsche Welle (>), was released on Tuesday, June 1, after 20 days of administrative arrest on charges of “repeated participation in an unauthorized event”. Once at large, the reporter said that the temporary detention center of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee looks more like a “military prison”.

As the human rights volunteer group MayDay clarified in its Telegram channel, another journalist, Vladimir Laptsevich, was also released. “They were taken from the territory of the detention center in a police car so that they would not be met there by their relatives and journalists,” the human rights activists noted.

The journalist spoke about the use of force against him

According to Burakov, on the third day, “they used a little force, a hand-wringing technique.” The reporter clarified that he insisted on observing the internal regulations, but faced a similar reaction from the security officials. “The only thing that remained was, of course, to obey,” he added.

Alexander Burakov also clarified that Timur Pakhomenko, the head of the public police station of the Leninsky District Department of Internal Affairs of Mogilev, personally familiarized him with the case materials.
