“BelGee” wants to produce cars under its own brand

The Belarusian-Chinese joint venture “BelJI” is considering the possibility of producing cars under its own brand. This was announced by the general director of the enterprise Gennady Svidersky in an interview with the Respublika newspaper.

He noted that his own brand will be the next level of interaction with Geely. “When we produce under the Geely brand, then we have a license to assemble cars under this brand. Now we have agreed to expand the license in terms of the fact that a car under our own brand will give us more opportunities. This will be our area of ​​responsibility, and we will be able to independently regulate all processes,” said Gennady Svidersky.

He expressed hope that the BelGee brand could appear before the end of this year, and the first model under this brand will be the previously released Coolray – its name will be changed to X50.

Dynamic production and seamless sales

The general director said that in January-June 30,550 vehicles left the assembly line of BelJI, and all of them were sold. At the same time, 25 thousand cars were produced and sold for the whole of 2022, Gennady Svidersky stressed.

“Until the end of the year, we plan not to reduce production volumes and ensure the production of at least 60,000 cars,” he said and added that sales were carried out both in Belarus and in traditional export markets.

So, in the domestic market in 2022, 4.3 thousand cars were sold, and in the first half of this year – already about six thousand cars. The general director of “BelJI” associated this trend with the shortage of cars, which still takes place in the Belarusian market.

“Traditional brands that were, are not yet active. And we have successfully occupied these niches. Now our market share has increased to 80%,” he added.

In March, First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov said that Belarus had agreed with the Chinese side to expand cooperation in the automotive industry. In particular, a number of agreements have been reached on the development of the localization of Geely, so that as many technological processes as possible can be carried out in Belarus.
