Belgium has allocated €8 billion to stimulate its military industry and research into military technologies, said the country’s Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder, speaking at the EU-Ukraine military industry forum, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“Belgium has for the first time allocated a budget of €8 billion to stimulate research and production in the defense and security sector. The goal is for the sector to increase its research output, staff competence levels and restart industrial production,” she said.

Dedonder emphasized that numerous investments in the defense sector and the development of new military technologies will “not only increase the defense capabilities of Belgium and the EU,” but also create new jobs and stimulate the Belgian economy.

She called for the introduction of new technologies in the development of new types of weapons to be accelerated as much as possible in order to “ensure the security of Europe,” emphasizing the use of certain Belgian systems during combat operations in Ukraine, in particular underwater drones.
