An evening of horror in Brussels. A man fired a gun at several people this Monday in the Belgian capital. At least two of them died in this attack. The victims of this shooting are Swedish, who came to support their national team against Belgium during a Euro 2024 qualifier, as confirmed by the Belgian Prime Minister.
Shots were fired in the Belgian capital near Place Sainctelette, Boulevard d’Ypres and Boulevard du Ninième de Ligne, according to several corroborating Belgian media. Police officers were sent to the scene and a security perimeter was deployed. An investigation was opened and the federal prosecutor’s office responsible for terrorism took charge of it.
The match was interrupted at half-time. The Swedes reportedly requested that the meeting not resume, which was accepted by the Belgians. The stadium announcer also asked everyone present in the enclosure not to leave it.
